Provo una profonda amarezza.

Pur nella sua semplicità, qualcuno dirà faciloneria, uno dei meriti di questo programma è stato quello di aver parlato in maniera aperta di argomenti scomodi. Di quelli di cui non vogliamo parlare mai e consapevolmente scegliamo di ignorare.

Ha ragione Saviano. Gli Italiani sono fatti così. Se ne fregano.

Forse è questo che mi ha colpito più di tutto. L’aver messo in “piazza”, le debolezze, i difetti, i sentimenti e i modi di fare di un intero Paese. Nessuno, a mio parere, era riuscito a catturare l’attenzione di così tante persone, e a metterle di fronte allo specchio delle proprie meschinerie.

Da qualche mese, sono uno dei cosidetti “cervelli in fuga”. Per scelta, ma anche per necessità. Per scelta, perchè volevo andare “fuori”, per necessità, perchè dentro non mi sentivo più bene. E, quindi, eccomi qua, in fuga. Ma in fuga da che? Dall’Italia raccontata da Saviano? Anche.

Sono in fuga da un modo di pensare sempre “alla furbesca” (un bel neologismo appena coniato (da me) ); dal voler cercare di approfittarsi degli sbagli altrui: dal voler chiudere un occhio, di fronte alle storture; dal voler campare alla giornata, perché tanto non cambia niente.

Il mio è un atteggiamento vigliacco, scappo, perché non posso e non voglio rimediare. E’ vero, mi ritengo un vigliacco, perché non voglio lottare ogni volta per vedere rispettati i miei diritti, perché non voglio dover lottare con il nepotismo di chi sceglie la via facile, perché sono stanco di essere trattato meno di chi é un “VIP” e di vedere gli altri essere trattati come me, solo perché non sono “figli, nipoti, dentisti di”.

Chi ha girato un po’ il mondo, come me, sa che fuori l’Italia, non è vero che si sta meglio. Fuori l’Italia, dalla propria terra madre, si sta peggio. Si è lontani dagli affetti più cari, dalla propria famiglia, dalla propria cultura, dalle proprie radici: come si fa a stare meglio?

Eppure, fuori l’Italia, si respira. Camminando per le strade, l’aria a un odore diverso: di libertà.

Fuori l’Italia si è liberi di essere quello che si vuole, non ti conosce nessuno, nessuno ha preconcetti sul fatto da dove vieni. Incontri, o ti scontri con le persone per strada, e potrebbe essere l’inizio di qualcosa di importante, oppure no.

Fuori l’Italia, tutto sembra possibile, basta volerlo. “Sembra”, è un’illusione, ma dentro l’Italia, non ho neanche quella.

Vado via, e ormai sono già andato via, perché l’Italia mi sta stretta, perché mi soffoca, perché mi limita. Vado via con rammarico, perché vorrei non andare via. Vado via, perché ho la speranza che un giorno l’Italia imploda sul serio, su stessa, sul peso del proprio menefreghismo, sulle proprie incongruenze. Magari, allora potrà rinascere come una fenice. Vado via perché voglio avere una famiglia, che sia libera di pensare, di agire, di realizzare qualcosa, di essere semplicemente l’inizio di nucleo. Vado via perché voglio che i miei figli possano avere una possibilità, negata allo stato attuale, di essere migliori di me, di avere qualcosa di meglio, di poter avere delle occasioni, senza essere “figli di”.

Eppure…

…voglio tornare. Con tutto il mio cuore. Perché, come ha detto Enzo Biagi, io sono Italiano.

He is my favorite singer and have the chance to meet him face to face is something I never expected!

His mind is a melting pot of ideas and its original life style has no rivals.

All began two days ago. We were invited to the Festival fo Creativity, held in Florence during this week. I tried to keep me away from this, I have my thesis to write.
Unfortunately (or luckily I should say now) I could not. So I was kindly compelled to be there yesterday and the day before.
So far it is nothing special. Going to the fair, mounting the field, setting up the network, cutting the goal posts, trying to let the robot work: just routine.
Then, during the dinner at 10pm, the shocking notice: Lorenzo would talk at the fair. Unbelievable!
I was so excited to meet him I did not sleep well.

10 o’clock. There I am, ready for the talk. Of course I was standing up close to the stage. And he entered.
Suddenly it became a sunny day.

His music is really wonderful, he put his soul inside each note. He is a genius in using different media to let his mind go outside.

Yesterday he should have presented his new project, OrlandoLab, a laboratory of creativity inside the Cortona Fortress.
He talk about this too, but the focus was in what is creativity for him. (if you would like to know more about his inventiveness, try in his website)

Creativity is Invention.

We cannot create, everything is already created. We just invent new things from the actual ones. The biggest inventor was Leonardo, of course, but everyone can be an inventor.
Technology today allows everyone be an artist, there are no excuse like “I cannot do that”. If you have a good idea, a great idea, you can won the Oscar prize with no effort. Everything is up to help you become a communicator, and it depends just on you.

Did you have ever do the game of free association? It is like you start from a word and then connect it to another that comes to your mind. Then you do the same with another, and another and so on.
This is what he often did to take the inspiration from the world. Sometimes he surfs on Google Images and makes a collage on what he finds.
He did it too in preparation of his talk.
With a borrowed pc, he showed us dozen of pictures. For each of them he talk about why he chose it.

Eccomi di ritorno da una entusiasmante, divertente, scoppiettante, ma anche formativa esperienza!!! Direttamente da Chianciano… ladies and gentlemen…

Latina!!!! (il nome lo dirò solo dopo il nostro debutto quindi rimanete sintonizzati )

Per chi si fosse perso un pezzo del discorso, sto parlando dell’Improvvisazione Teatrale! E noi, i matti di cui sopra, siamo il primo anno della NovaUrbs, Compagnia Maia, Giorgio Rosa boss/maestro/mentore.

Oh ragazzi, come detto già da qualcun’altro, sono state 78 ore filate di improvvisazioni no stop! E chi l’avrebbe mai detto che saremmo stati… un pò schiappe ma con tanta voglia di imparare e migliorare!

Il nostro debutto a Chianciano detto inter nos è andato bene ma possiamo fare di meglio, essere i primi non è certo la cosa migliore: da un lato è positivo perchè poi stai tranquillo per gli altri giorni, dall’altro fare l’apripista agli altri comunque è una responsabilità… ma va bene, siamo carichi… e domenica debuttiamo anche nella città che ci ha fatto crescere!!!!

Mi raccomando, o voi ignari dell’Imprò, trovatevi un impegno e non ci cercate… almeno fino a domenica, poi fate come vi pare …che dici Giò? più gente c’è meglio è?!?!?!?! no no, state a casa tranquilli che tanto piove :p

Vabbè… fate un pò come vi pare…

Many things we are not proud: mafia, politicians, football hooligans.
We have many shortcomings, sometimes we don’t mind too much about the consequences of our actions, and sometimes we do things that are weird to other country people.

It’s true. But we have also many preciousness. We are a sunny folks, we smile almost all the times, but we are able to cry and fight for other people rights. We are warm-hearted to foreigners, even if there are someone that try to mud this, with hate and angry.
Moreover we are self-ironic and we like very much to kid ourself.

Here there is the proof:

It was made by an awesome Italian artist, Bruno Bozzetto. Maybe it is a little bit burlesque, but we don’t care much, we are so, and we are proud of that

Anyway, when I came back, at airport I found a big surprise.
My family were there, waiting for me of course. But there were my sister and my friends, with a big surprise.

They had some piece of paper with the writing “Bentornato” (Welcome back) in white and red (the colours of Japanese flag) and when I appeared they changed them into “in Italia” (in Italy) with Italian flag colours.

Did you understand the effect? Maybe not so here there is a “behind scene” of the preparation, a little movie that they made few hours before I landed.

My future sister-in-law shown me it last sunday and my heart had a little jump. Watching it I discover how much work they had done, how much they love me. And I really appreciate it.
I want to say thanks to them, and in particular manner to my sister, that had a so cute idea.

Il 18 Luglio abbiamo giusto il tempo di riposare qualche ora che siamo subito pronti per partire alla scoperta di questa gigantesca città. Destinazione: la patria degli italiani all’estero.

Non si pensi che la scelta sia dovuta a questioni di patriottismo o altro, da qualche parte si deve pur iniziare e partire da qui ci permette anche di
visitare la famosissima Chinatown.
Un cartello tricolore con un bel “Welcome to Little Italy”, ci da il benvenuto in questo tripudio di verde, bianco e rosso. Qui persino gli idranti hanno i colori dell’Italia e in ogni dove si trovano ristoranti, caffè, pasticcerie italiani. Quasi non sembra di stare all’estero!

Per calarci ancora di più nella parte dell’italiano in vacanza, ci mangiamo una pizza in una delle tante pizzerie presenti, ben consci però di non doverla paragonare a quelle nostrane: all’estero non bisogna fare l’errore di cercare il gusto che si trova in terra natia.

Anche Chinatown sembra una zona a sè. Mentre in Little Italy solo raramente si sente qualche parola italica, qui sembra sul serio di essere in un quartiere cinese. Nessuno parla inglese e si sente solo il chiacchiericcio sincopato della lingua mandarina.
Persino i commessi fanno un po’ di fatica a parlare inglese!

Famosa in tutto il mondo per essere una delle borse più importanti, Wall Street alle sei del pomeriggio è piena di uomini d’affari che smettono la giacca e la cravatta e si rilassano in uno dei tanti bar presenti in zona.
Questo è il luogo dove girano gli interessi di un po’ tutto il mondo, compresi noi inconsapevoli che invece vediamo solo una facciata di finte colonne greche.
Immancabile la foto con il famoso toro che carica di Wall Street, simbolo reale dell’effimero potere del mondo finanziario.

Raggiungere Ground Zero si rivela un cammino pieno di attesa. Da Wall Street è una breve camminata, ma ad ogni passo cresce l’ansia di scoprire finalmente il teatro di un’immane tragedia americana.
Il primo impatto con il grande vuoto è di assoluto timore: nonè facile capacitarsi di cosa deve essere stato il 9/11. Il memoriale dei caduti ricorda
ogni singolo nome che è stato travolto da questo atto barbaro di inciviltà.
E’ impossibile non provare un senso di profondo cordoglio per un paese che ha subito un così grave lutto.
Al cordoglio però ben presto si aggiunge un’indicibile tristezza: il pensiero vola a tutto ciò che è stato scatenato in nome di una vendetta mascherata da giustizia. Le migliaia di morti in Afghanistan, quelle in Iraq, donne e bambini,
giovani e anziani, soldati e terroristi, non si riesce a capire il motivo di tanta sofferenza. Dall’uno e dall’altro lato c’è solo una voglia disperata di
annientare il nemico.
Nel nome di una fede religiosa o di un credo politico, niente giustifica questo interminabile massacro.

Pensierosi, e un po’ tristi, ci dirigiamo nel West Village, per gustare una cena messicana degna di nota, prima di tuffarci nelle luci colorate di Times Square. Questa, che in realtà piazza non è, illumina la notte già a qualche blocco (l’equivalente dell’isolato da noi) di distanza e lo spettacolo che ci accoglie quando ormai arriviamo al centro di tutto è mozzafiato.
Migliaia di insegne al neon da rivaleggiare con una città giapponese. Un formicolio di gente che vaga, senza null’altro scopo che calpestare l’asfalto.
Bolidi giallo-arancio che sfrecciano incuranti di possibili ostacoli sulla strada: scopriremo poi che sono dei taxi, i famosissimi taxi newyorkesi.

Se vi venisse fame in italia, probabilmente proporreste una rinomata spaghettata di mezzanotte. Qui gli spaghetti son complicati, molto meglio un sanissimo hamburger, o un hot dog (che dopotutto sono niente male).
E quindi chiudiamo in bellezza questa serata a uno dei tantissimi McDonald disseminati per la città. Riuscite a immaginare una conclusione migliore per una giornata americana?

On June, 29th, me and my colleagues, we will fly to USA. This year RoboCup will be held there.
I’ve been involved in RoboCup since 2004. It was at first sight love.
The venue, night passed programming, trying to solve problems that were unsolved for months, the suspense before the starting of game, the happines after a win, the bitter disappointment after a lose.
There are many opposed feelings in these competitions, but always they are very strong. I guess it is not possible really to understand until you live them.

This year is probably the last year of our league. I’m working on AIBO robots. They are pretty amazing, because they are cute, and very funny to see at work. But they are also very little bastard and sometimes you would like throw out the window! Anyway passion is needed to accomplish good job, and I really hope that mine and my colleagues efforts will be reward.

But RoboCup is not only work. We planned a small (!) trip to north-west of USA.

Pretty cool, isn’t? RoboCup events will finish on 10th July. After a day in Savannah, we will fly to New York City.
Then we will go to Buffalo (Niagara Falls), Toronto, Montreal, Boston and NYC again. All by car!

I’m quite excited about this journey! Ok I am always so before going to a new country. But I will stay with many friends and visit beautiful (I hope) places, it is without doubt a wonderful thing.

I will write about USA there, for sure. So stay tuned!

After a long preparation, my team was not ready to play.
Yesterday we play very ugly matches against Spain and Portugal. Many bug in our codes, calibration problems, we had a lot of problems.
Our development is still early alpha, and we have less than 2 months to let the system work. Aarghhhhh!!

After a disaster on qualification round (we lost 3 of 4 matches), we played the final against the Spanish team.
But here our efforts had been rewarded: we won!
With a final result of 2-0, we can bring at home the cup.

It was a little satisfaction, like a phyrric victory… We want to do our best, and get more significant results on next RoboCup in Atlanta.

So now we will go to work, hard work and for sure we will catch the best!
