Provo una profonda amarezza.

Pur nella sua semplicità, qualcuno dirà faciloneria, uno dei meriti di questo programma è stato quello di aver parlato in maniera aperta di argomenti scomodi. Di quelli di cui non vogliamo parlare mai e consapevolmente scegliamo di ignorare.

Ha ragione Saviano. Gli Italiani sono fatti così. Se ne fregano.

Forse è questo che mi ha colpito più di tutto. L’aver messo in “piazza”, le debolezze, i difetti, i sentimenti e i modi di fare di un intero Paese. Nessuno, a mio parere, era riuscito a catturare l’attenzione di così tante persone, e a metterle di fronte allo specchio delle proprie meschinerie.

Da qualche mese, sono uno dei cosidetti “cervelli in fuga”. Per scelta, ma anche per necessità. Per scelta, perchè volevo andare “fuori”, per necessità, perchè dentro non mi sentivo più bene. E, quindi, eccomi qua, in fuga. Ma in fuga da che? Dall’Italia raccontata da Saviano? Anche.

Sono in fuga da un modo di pensare sempre “alla furbesca” (un bel neologismo appena coniato (da me) ); dal voler cercare di approfittarsi degli sbagli altrui: dal voler chiudere un occhio, di fronte alle storture; dal voler campare alla giornata, perché tanto non cambia niente.

Il mio è un atteggiamento vigliacco, scappo, perché non posso e non voglio rimediare. E’ vero, mi ritengo un vigliacco, perché non voglio lottare ogni volta per vedere rispettati i miei diritti, perché non voglio dover lottare con il nepotismo di chi sceglie la via facile, perché sono stanco di essere trattato meno di chi é un “VIP” e di vedere gli altri essere trattati come me, solo perché non sono “figli, nipoti, dentisti di”.

Chi ha girato un po’ il mondo, come me, sa che fuori l’Italia, non è vero che si sta meglio. Fuori l’Italia, dalla propria terra madre, si sta peggio. Si è lontani dagli affetti più cari, dalla propria famiglia, dalla propria cultura, dalle proprie radici: come si fa a stare meglio?

Eppure, fuori l’Italia, si respira. Camminando per le strade, l’aria a un odore diverso: di libertà.

Fuori l’Italia si è liberi di essere quello che si vuole, non ti conosce nessuno, nessuno ha preconcetti sul fatto da dove vieni. Incontri, o ti scontri con le persone per strada, e potrebbe essere l’inizio di qualcosa di importante, oppure no.

Fuori l’Italia, tutto sembra possibile, basta volerlo. “Sembra”, è un’illusione, ma dentro l’Italia, non ho neanche quella.

Vado via, e ormai sono già andato via, perché l’Italia mi sta stretta, perché mi soffoca, perché mi limita. Vado via con rammarico, perché vorrei non andare via. Vado via, perché ho la speranza che un giorno l’Italia imploda sul serio, su stessa, sul peso del proprio menefreghismo, sulle proprie incongruenze. Magari, allora potrà rinascere come una fenice. Vado via perché voglio avere una famiglia, che sia libera di pensare, di agire, di realizzare qualcosa, di essere semplicemente l’inizio di nucleo. Vado via perché voglio che i miei figli possano avere una possibilità, negata allo stato attuale, di essere migliori di me, di avere qualcosa di meglio, di poter avere delle occasioni, senza essere “figli di”.

Eppure…

…voglio tornare. Con tutto il mio cuore. Perché, come ha detto Enzo Biagi, io sono Italiano.

Blessed by a sunny sky, we went for a decent visit of Derry/Londonderry.

Except from being the “Walled City”, Derry does not have too much to sightsee.
However, you can always take a pleasant walk inside the old city, looking here and there, just for fun.

The Bogside quarter definitively it is worth a visit.
The impressive huge murals here tell us the sad story, when people were fighting against the discrimination and for civil rights.

The Troubles started here, on 12th August, 1969, the so-called “Battle of Bogside“.
Started as a communal riot, it spread all along the Northern Ireland.
Wikipedia has a very interesting reading about that, and I strongly suggest reading it.
Really interesting is also the entry related to the Bloody Sunday, a day commemorated by the U2 in the famous song “Sunday Bloody Sunday”.

The Guildhall is another interesting landmark.
Its red bricks facade has a strong contrast with the water fountain that runs in front of the entrance (you can take a sit and relax watching the changing shapes of water columns).

Coming back to Donegal, we took a sneaky peek at Ramelton, with its historic houses…

… and Rathmullan, an holiday resort, with a pleasant harbour.

For sure the sunset was outstanding!

When you are in Northern Ireland, it is better to use at the maximum the not-so-cloudy-to-rain days.
On Day 6, our destination was the Glenveagh National Park.

This park is located in the heart of Donegal County, an hillside land, full of astonishing natural places.
At the center, the small Glenveagh Castle welcomes the visitors.

Built around 1862 by Captain John George Adair, the story of the castle started in cruelty.
Returning home after making a fortune by chancy land speculation, he bought a lot of land in Donegal.
He is greatest ambition was to build an estate around that magnificent places.
Unfortunately, some families of tenants were on his way.
Using a dispute about sheep trespassing, he evicted 44 families, destroying their houses. And all of this not for financial gain, but for the only purpose to improve the aesthetic aspect of the castle.

Nowadays, this park is one of the natural reserve less contaminated by human beings.
We can disagree with the behavior of John Adair, but thanks to that, we can have quietly walking, surrounded by the Nature.

After a quick lunch, based on tea (with milk!), we reached towards Dunfanaghy.
This village is just a bunch of house with a great view on the Ocean.

With the low tide, the three-mile-long beach of Killahoey Strand is directly connected to the promontory of Horn Head.
The lough is a haven for seabirds and is also a Special Protection Area.

The sandy beach is a very nice place to stay, even in cold weather!!!

The disappointing bad weather in the causeway on day 3 was so high that we decided to come back again.
The sun on day 4 was shining all over the hexagonal stones of the Giant’s, and finally, the natural beauty of the Giant’s Causeway was revealed to us.

We left Kinbane Head in a very sunny day.

Unfortunately, we did not have too much time to spent, because Derry/Londonderry was waiting for us.

Derry or Londonderry?

The reason why this city has two names is buried deep in history.
The official name is Londonderry, assigned by a Royal Charter in 1662. The original name was Derry, and it is mostly used by Catholic and Republic of Ireland people.

The walk around the walls of the old city, reveals the history of the city in its young days.
The walls demonstrate their effectiveness during the Siege of Derry.
The motto of loyalist motto “No surrender” comes from these days, when 13 apprentice boys shut the gates of the city against the oncoming army.
The city eventually capitulated to the army, but still this story is impressive of the courage of inhabitants of Derry.

However, hundreds of years later, other citizens fought for their freedom, and the old rebels became the antagonists.
The motto was taken by the Loyalist during the Troubles.

The fighting for freedom is understandable. But terroristic attacks and repression of the free thought cannot be justified at all.

At the end they are both just wrong… and this is my thought.

And then, we will forgive you this late second thoughts…

In mezzo alla desolazione del pensier comune, una cosa mi ha colpito, con la forza di una verità sconvolgente.
Siamo in crisi, ma non è detto che si debba arrendersi.

Più o meno è questo il succo dello spettacolo di Marco Paolini, andato in onda su La7 due giorni or sono. Uno spettacolo incentrato sull’illusione del libero mercato, dell’economia galoppante, della rincorsa al consumismo.
Con il suo fare ironico e un po’ beffardo, Marco Paoloni ha provato a farci capire che tutto sommato, la crisi non è la ragione principale per cui ci sentiamo un po’ “miserabili”.

Il miserabile è colui che perde la speranza, che si rassegna all’inevitabilità delle cose, senza provare a lottare per cambiare ciò che non va.
La crisi certamente ci fa perdere la fiducia, nelle istituzioni, nell’economia, nelle piccole cose di tutti i giorni. Però quello che non fa è toglierci la nostra voglia di opporsi, di lottare per ri-emergere dal fondo del lago.
Si deve essere ottimisti? Certo, ma non come qualcuno che demagogicamente fa proclami sul “tanto va tutto bene, chi dice il contrario dice una bugia”. L’ottimismo non è un atteggiamento passivo, non bisogna aspettare sul bordo del fiume.
Vogliamo che le cose cambino? Dobbiamo essere i primi ad agire in tal senso. Essere ottimisti non basta, occorre rimboccarsi le maniche ed essere artefici del proprio vivere.

Che tutto questo sia stato “rivelato” da uno spettacolo teatrale, è solo un fatto marginale. Avere un cervello significa anche cogliere spunti di riflessione dalle cose più semplici e banali.
E a volte basta un semplice programma televisivo per avere una visione cristallina di verità che, in fondo, sono già sotto la superficie (in)cosciente del nostro pensiero.

Per inciso lo spettacolo è stato eccezionale, e il supporto musicale dei Mercanti di Liquore veramente ben congegnato.
Per non parlare poi della scenografia, i container del porto di Taranto ben inquadravano la sensazione di oppressione, ma al tempo stesso di speranza e possibilità.
Memorabile la definizione del secondo principio della termodinamica:

Il secondo principio della termodinamica è quello che dice che, se hai un acquario e vuoi fare una frittura mista, non è detto che dopo puoi riavere l’acquario

M’illumino di meno, la campagna lanciata da Caterpillar, programma di Radio2, vi ricorda che oggi è la giornata del risparmio energetico.

Un’occasione preziosa per riflettere su un uso consapevole delle risorse, ancor più in questo periodo di crisi.

Ricordatevi di spegnere luce, gas, riscaldamenti, stufetta scalda-gambe, scalda tazza usb (lo so che ce l’avete), scalda tazza (aka tavoletta del cesso), e un po’ anche il cellulare.

Se poi volete essere un po’ più coerenti, non fatelo solo oggi, ma ogni giorno ricordatevi di spegnere la luce

Infine, per quelli che si sentono più geek, scaricatevi il font ecologico, Ecofont, anche detto “il formaggio font coi buchi” e “i buchi con la menta l’inchiostro intorno” (cit)! (thanks Flavia per la segnalazione)

Who cares…

Today I woke up with some sense of power. Not power in the sense “I can destroy anything”, but “I can manage anything”.
I’m not hyped up.

I just feel optimistic.

He is my favorite singer and have the chance to meet him face to face is something I never expected!

His mind is a melting pot of ideas and its original life style has no rivals.

All began two days ago. We were invited to the Festival fo Creativity, held in Florence during this week. I tried to keep me away from this, I have my thesis to write.
Unfortunately (or luckily I should say now) I could not. So I was kindly compelled to be there yesterday and the day before.
So far it is nothing special. Going to the fair, mounting the field, setting up the network, cutting the goal posts, trying to let the robot work: just routine.
Then, during the dinner at 10pm, the shocking notice: Lorenzo would talk at the fair. Unbelievable!
I was so excited to meet him I did not sleep well.

10 o’clock. There I am, ready for the talk. Of course I was standing up close to the stage. And he entered.
Suddenly it became a sunny day.

His music is really wonderful, he put his soul inside each note. He is a genius in using different media to let his mind go outside.

Yesterday he should have presented his new project, OrlandoLab, a laboratory of creativity inside the Cortona Fortress.
He talk about this too, but the focus was in what is creativity for him. (if you would like to know more about his inventiveness, try in his website)

Creativity is Invention.

We cannot create, everything is already created. We just invent new things from the actual ones. The biggest inventor was Leonardo, of course, but everyone can be an inventor.
Technology today allows everyone be an artist, there are no excuse like “I cannot do that”. If you have a good idea, a great idea, you can won the Oscar prize with no effort. Everything is up to help you become a communicator, and it depends just on you.

Did you have ever do the game of free association? It is like you start from a word and then connect it to another that comes to your mind. Then you do the same with another, and another and so on.
This is what he often did to take the inspiration from the world. Sometimes he surfs on Google Images and makes a collage on what he finds.
He did it too in preparation of his talk.
With a borrowed pc, he showed us dozen of pictures. For each of them he talk about why he chose it.
